From the shop, the van takes I-526 west, crosses the Ashley River and comes down onto Sam Rittenberg Blvd or Paul Cantrell Blvd depending on the address. The inner half of West Ashley, ZIP 29407, is Avondale, Byrnes Downs, South Windermere and the streets between Savannah Hwy and Ashley River Rd, ten minutes from the bridge. The outer half, ZIP 29414, runs from Sam Rittenberg out Bees Ferry Rd to Shadowmoss, Carolina Bay and Grand Oaks. We work both in the same day, Monday to Saturday, and a warm refrigerator anywhere in West Ashley gets a same-day window. There is no bridge fee and no surcharge for the distance.
West Ashley has two kinds of houses and two kinds of appliance trouble. The 1950s to 70s brick ranches in Avondale, Byrnes Downs and South Windermere sit on crawlspaces, and the dryer vent that runs through that damp space packs with lint and kills thermal fuses. The kitchens have been remodeled once or twice, and the dishwasher and range went in around the original cabinets. Out along Bees Ferry Rd, the 2000s subdivisions have their builder packages aging out together: French-door refrigerators failing on fans and boards, front-load washers on pumps and bearings. Charleston Water System water is soft, so scale is rare. Humidity and storm-season surges are not.
| Appliance | What we see most here |
|---|---|
| Refrigerators | Garage and carport fridges quitting in August heat, and inverter boards and start relays taken out by storm-season power flickers. |
| Dryers | Thermal fuses popped by lint-packed crawlspace vents in the older ranches, rusted drum rollers, long runs in the two-story subdivisions. |
| Washers | Drain pumps and door locks on ten-year-old front-loaders in Carolina Bay and Grand Oaks; standpipe backups in remodeled ranches. |
| Dishwashers | Drain pumps and wash motors on builder-grade units, hardened gaskets, and film on glasses from too much detergent in soft water. |
| Ranges & ovens | Bake elements and igniters, coil-top elements and switches in the older kitchens, control boards on glass-tops after a surge. |
| Ice makers | Modules and fill valves on French-door refrigerators past ten years, frozen fill tubes, the well-known Samsung and LG freeze-ups. |
A brick ranch off Savannah Hwy, the dryer blowing cold for a week. The thermal fuse reads open. Under the house, the flexible vent is packed to a felt lining most of its length. Fuse replaced from the van, the first ten feet of duct cleared, and a plain recommendation to have the rest of the run done.
A French-door refrigerator in a 2008 kitchen, fresh food at 52 degrees and the freezer fine. Behind the back panel the evaporator is a solid block of ice. The defrost heater meters open. Heater and thermostat replaced, coil thawed, temperatures falling before the van leaves the driveway.
A front-loader stopped mid-cycle, door locked, water inside, a stack of school uniforms waiting. The tub is drained by hand, the door released, and the drain pump found seized on a hair tie and a child’s sock. Pump replaced, drain cycle watched, written warranty on the counter.

Standing water, a spin that never comes, a puddle on the laundry-room floor — front-load, top-load and the stacked pairs in townhomes and rentals.

The technician tests the machine with a meter, names the failed part in plain words and writes one number for the repair. The $99 is already inside that number. Approve it and the repair usually happens the same visit; decline it and $99 is the whole bill. Booking online takes up to $20 off the repair.
Yes, and there are a lot of them along Sam Rittenberg Blvd and Savannah Hwy. The tenant is home for the visit, the owner or manager gets the written number by text and approves, and the invoice and written warranty go to the owner. A part that must be ordered comes back with no second trip fee.
Microwaves, wine coolers, standalone ice machines, water heaters, HVAC and commercial kitchen equipment. We stick to six machines: washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers, stoves and ovens, dishwashers, and the ice makers inside refrigerators. Sticking to six is why the van usually has the part.
